Charities specific to the Jewish faith
Charity
The following two charities are specific to the Jewish faith in that they are run by Jews and carry Jewish moral beliefs, however they do not solely help people of the Jewish faith.
Founded in 1933, WJR is the main overseas aid arm of the UK Jewish community. We provide basic welfare support in the form of food, medication and fuel as well as sustaining and renewing Jewish life in communities across the world.
With its global outlook today WJR is positioned as the charity to channel the UK Jewish community's response to disasters and need affecting the international community regardless of race, religion or nationality.
WJR is above all an enabling organisation, helping individuals and communities to survive and thrive.
WJR has operated in Aden, Algeria, Argentina, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Croatia, Czechoslovakia, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, Morocco, Nepal, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, Russia, Rwanda, Serbia, Somalia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan/Chad, Syria, Tunisia, Ukraine, Yemen, Yugoslavia
WJR is always ready to assist those in the greatest need. Year by year, we review our programmes to ensure we are providing the most relevant and life-changing support in order that people can regain their independence and ultimately have a brighter future.
Who WJR help:
Children
Children are the innocent victims of poverty, which deprives them of the healthy start to life they all deserve. We are helping communities build a positive future for their children.
Elderly
Many elderly people face constant hardship at the most basic level from battling the brutal cold to finding enough food to survive. We are striving to improve the quality of life of those who live in the communities we support.
Communities
We support communities across the globe where the need is greatest. By implementing programmes that help regenerate and revitalise communities, this leads to increased independence and ultimately a better quality of life.
Disaster Relief & Rehabilitation
We react to international disasters around the world wherever there is need. We provide support regardless of race, religion or ethnic origin.
